Kudumba Sangamam - 2011

The first Kudumba Samgamam of Kunhimangalam Kuppadakkath Tharavad was held on 26th April 2011 in front of the Kottilakam at Kunhimangalam. Around 100 members and relatives were present for the get together. The full day program was inaugurated by the Smt. Sharada Amma, senior most member of the Tharavad, by lighting a "nilavilakku". The meeting was presided over by Sri.K.Radhakrishnan Nambiar (Ernakulam) and started by paying respectfull homage to the dearest members of the tharavad who no more are with us. The seniormost members of the tharavad were honoured and presented with shawls. The function began with self-introduction of all members.

Shri. Kalikkot Raghaven Nambiar Master, who is a well-wisher of our tharavdu presented a beautiful painting of our old nalukettu known as Kuppadakkath Valiyaveedu drawn from his memory. The picture of the old “valiya veedu” brought nostalgic memories to the older members and overwhelmed the younger ones who have never set eyes on the house or a picture of it.

Shri K R Nambiar narrated the features of society, family and life prevailed many decades back. Old glories and miseries after the Second World War could be heard only with amusement and shock. Everybody was thrilled when the older members shared the unforgettable good old memories of the great tharavadu and the thrill of "Koottukudumbam".

A family tree with details of several generations made on a huge flex board was displayed with a request to all the members to suggest modifications to make it perfect and up to date.

The post lunch session was planned and utilised uncover the talents of the members and was enjoyed by all when the older mothers and young children came out with their special skills. Smt. Sarada Amma chanted Vishnusahasranamam and a song praising Kammaran Karanavar who is said to be the most famous and powerful Karanavar we had. The participant children were presented with prizes. The Secretary expressed his gratitue and thanks to all members who took a lot of pain to reach the thirumuttam of the tharavadu on the glorious day of the first kudubasangamam and prayed that this meeting shall pave way for a happy tomorrow with the blessings of our Kuldevatha Sree Veenanchira Bhagavathi.
